Cal Redback. In one word: amazing.

In looking what peaked my interest this week, it only took Redback’s project title “Treebeard” to reel me in. In this project, both pictured in the headline and the last image, Redback fantastically intertwines green, twisting, sprouting branches into portraits. Half of their faces reveal what lies underneath–our original, basic nature; as if we have never left our roots. The other project I loved was entitled “on fire.” Here, Redback again uses portraits, but in such a way that the fire and smoke directly mirrors their actions. This gave me such a deeper message a little challenging to write about–something about how it’s not just smoking, it’s playing with fire. Your hair isn’t just lifting off your shoulders, it’s waltzing with the wind. Earthly entrancement in everything we do.

Though it was Redback’s complex editing that caught me, his talents in photography don’t end there. He also shoots landscapes and portraits, but gives his work that extra oomph. I’ve got to admit, guys, I’ve been staring at these pictures for like half an hour and I still can’t look away. If you want your mind further boggled, check out his more digital rendtitions for something to think about.
Cal Redback lives in Paris, France with his wife.
